BACKGROUND
One Beast Fighter Of An Eheads Tribute
Article taken from Sony Music Entertainment (Philippines)
12/8/2005 - It was an album that has been dreamt by many and people thought would never happen. Since the Eraserheads resuscitated the band era during the 90s, it spawned countless hits, citations and critical acclaim from "Ultraelectromagneticpop" to "Carbon Steroxide." Up to this day, the name Eraserheads (though already disbanded) still reigns as the band respected by peers in the music industry as well us up and coming bands.
Some say it is too early to have a tribute album dedicated to them. But Eric Perpetua and Claudine Najera of JAM 88.3 thought otherwise.
"If you look at their albums, it had already produced a lot of hits which will be enough for a tribute album. We believe, it's okay to look back and acknowledge what they have done in the music industry," Najera said.
It was actually Perpetua's longtime dream to have a tribute album that will feature the country's top musical acts singing Eraserheads songs. Having been a fan of the band, he knew it would happen. So he pitched in the idea to Sony BMG, the band's record label that gave a go signal to push through with the project.
He already had some artists in mind and they became excited the moment he approached them having been fans of the Eraserheads. But gathering some of the artists to participate in the project proved not to be an easy task. Since some of them came from competing record companies, several negotiations happened.
"It was hard but what made it easier were the artists themselves helped to be part of the project," Najera said.
After the artist line-up were finalized, each were asked to choose their preferred songs from the Eraserheads and interpret it according to their style.
The result-a fusion of different genres in one album that was unanimously decided to be called "ULTRAELECTROMAGNETICJAM", based from their first album "Ultraelectromagneticpop" and Jam from the radio station Jam 88.3.
South Border adds R&B flavor to the Eheads song "With A Smile" while Orange and Lemons infuses their new wave influences with their cover of "Huwag Kang Matakot." Jazz is represented by Isha ("Torpedo") while acoustic acts MYMP and Paolo Santos take on hits "Huwag Mo Nang Itanong" and "Magasin" respectively. The country's hottest acts today like Cueshé, Sponge Cola, 6cyclemind, Imago, Sugarfree, Kitchie Nadal and Barbie Almabis will not be left behind with their versions of "Hard To Believe," "Alapaap," "Spoliarium," "Tikman ang Langit," "Ligaya" and "Overdrive." Brownman Revival blends reggae to the song "Maling Akala" while Radioactive Sago Project chooses to revive "Alcohol." Music veterans FrancisM and Rico J. Puno will surprise you with their interpretation of "Superproxy" and "Ang Huling El Bimbo" respectively.
"Ultraelectromagneticjam" also features "Para Sa Masa", sung by artists included in the album.
This is one spectacular collection every Eraserheads fan should not miss.
